Environmental Protection
Information on the structure and activities related to environmental protection of "AZhC"
JSC.
A responsible attitude towards the environment is a key principle of "AZhC" JSC's
environmental policy.
The main activities of "AZhC" JSC do not have a significant impact on the environment.
However, it is important for the company to understand its area of responsibility in the field of
ecology to minimize negative impacts and improve its environmental policy.
The Production and Technical Department of "AZhC" JSC has developed the "Society's Policy
in the Field of Environmental Protection" (hereinafter referred to as the Policy) with the aim of
maintaining the professional safety and health management system in working order within the
Society, as well as within the framework of implementing the approved Action Plan for
improving corporate governance.
This Policy was developed in strict accordance with the legislation of the Republic of
Kazakhstan in the field of environmental protection. The implementation of this Policy is
mandatory for all employees of the Society.
The Policy includes:
 Principles, goals, and tasks of the Society in the field of environmental protection;
 Main activities aimed at implementing the Society's priorities;
 The procedure for identifying risks in the aforementioned area and the main measures for
responding to them;
 Performance indicators in the field of environmental protection.
Environmental Performance Indicators
Air and cable transmission lines and open distribution devices of substations are not active
sources of environmental pollution. The main sources of environmental impact during the
operation of electric networks and substations are:
 Emissions from stationary sources – carried out by auxiliary workshop facilities of the
company, performing repair and restoration of the main equipment. These include
welding stations, transformer drying, storage and purification of transformer oil, gas
cutting and welding of metals, carpentry workshop machinery, etc.;
 The operational activities of "AZhC" JSC in the maintenance of networks and
substations; the amount of emissions and waste generated in this process is regulated by
developed emission standards;
 Production waste generated during the repair and modernization of substation equipment,
which is disposed of in an established manner;
 The company's implemented investment projects;
 Emissions from mobile sources.
Impact on Atmospheric Air
According to the maximum allowable emission standards at "AZhC" JSC, stationary sources of
harmful substance emissions (both organized and unorganized) have been identified.
The gross emissions from stationary sources amount to 9.45 tons/year.
Greenhouse Gases

Efforts have been made to identify sources of greenhouse gas emissions, which include motor
vehicles.
Production Waste
"Alatau Zharyk Company" JSC follows the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan
dated January 2, 2021, №400-IV, and waste management standards in its waste management
practices.
Depending on their type, generated wastes are divided into industrial and municipal:
 Industrial wastes include used transformer oil, oily rags, scrap metal, dismantled
capacitors, mercury-containing lamps, industrial and construction waste, paper waste,
etc.;
 Municipal solid waste – generated during daily activities.
The most toxic and hazardous wastes are mercury-containing wastes (spent fluorescent lamps),
which are classified as 1 st class hazard, while other wastes fall into classes 3, 4, and 5 of hazard.
The main production wastes are transformer oil and scrap metal, generated during operation,
repair, and modernization of equipment.
Agreements have been concluded with specialized organizations for the demercurization of spent
mercury-containing lamps, the disposal of hazardous wastes, landfill sites for solid waste
disposal, and the placement of municipal wastes.
Impact on Water Bodies and Soil
The company's water consumption volumes are insignificant as water is not used in the
technological process. There are no discharges into water bodies or onto the terrain.
Potential sources of pollution include transformer oils used in oil-filled equipment, as well as
wastewater generated from the use of water for domestic needs. Oil-filled equipment is equipped
with oil receivers or trays, preventing oil from entering the soil.
Environmental Payments
Payments for the pollution of atmospheric air by emissions from stationary sources are made
based on calculations of actual emissions. Payments for air pollution by emissions from motor
vehicles are based on calculated data on actual fuel usage.
"AZhC" JSC's Environmental Usage Status in 2022
According to the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 2, 2021,
№400-IV, and the sanitary classification of production facilities, "AZhC" JSC falls into the III
and IV category, 5 th class of hazard, indicating a minimal scale of impact on the environment.
The Society, in managing emissions into the environment and waste, follows the Environmental
Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the production facilities of "AZhC" JSC, 165 stationary sources of harmful substances
emissions into the atmosphere have been identified, including 51 organized, 78 unorganized
regulated, and 36 unorganized non-regulated.

The company has developed, approved, and coordinated with the environmental authorities of
the city and region "Waste Management Standards" (WMS), "Hazardous Waste Passports," and
the "Maximum Allowable Emissions Project" (MAE) with attachments of the environmental
assessment conclusion, indicating no exceedance of maximum permissible concentrations of
harmful substances in the environment for all types of gaseous and volatile compounds.
Reports on the "Inventory of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes of "AZhC" JSC" in the
industrial areas of Almaty and the Almaty region are timely submitted to the Authorized
Environmental Bodies. Emissions from stationary sources are carried out by the auxiliary
workshop facilities of the company, performing repair and restoration of the main equipment.
These include welding stations, transformer drying, storage and purification of transformer oil,
gas cutting and welding of metals, carpentry workshop machinery, etc.
The enterprise quarterly reports on environmental pollution payments from stationary and mobile
emission sources to the tax authorities of the administrative districts of Almaty and the Almaty
region.
Under control are the wastes of mercury-containing lamps, which are sent to a specialized
enterprise for demercurization, collection and disposal of hazardous industrial wastes, as well as
the placement of municipal solid waste. Form 2TP-air and 4-OS reports are submitted timely and
in full with attachments of used materials to the "Statistics Departments" of Almaty and the
Almaty region.
Overall, the company's wastes belong to classes 3, 4, and 5 of hazard and are disposed of at the
city landfill.
